Low Back Pain and Cramping Calves

Ried C. came to me on the hopes that a good massage would releive his muscular cramps and low back pain.

I reviewed his health history and noted that his occupation was in the heating and air business.

This meant lots of hot cramped spaces and kneeling, bending and squatting.

His biggest complaint was the cramping and constant twitching in his calves.

Our first session included hot towel therapy with essential oils to calm the muscles,

trigger point and stretching.

We discussed a plan of action including stretches and vitamin and mineral supplements.

Massage therapy for at least 4 sessions with a review on progress at that time.

After the first session, Reid experienced NO Cramping and was able to sleep a full night

for the first time in 7 years.

In the second session more trigger point therapy for the calves, feet, and addressed the low back pain. Considering his occupation for small cramped spaces and squatting, his anterior tibialis had shortened, hamstrings, IT band was affected and psoas.

By the 4th session, with some specific stretches for legs and low back and suggestion for yoga type exercises to strengthen and lengthen, Reid is well on his way to better balance in his musculature system.

Upper Body Pain

Kathy H. came to me with headaches and pain radiating in the neck and shoulders region.

She had been receiving chiropractic treatment with little to no relief. Dr. Howard, D.C. then recommended massage therpy

in conjunction to the chiropractic treatments.

I reviewed Kathy's health history and upon further discussion, found that she had fell into

a firepit while vacationing several months earlier. A severe enough fall that she blacked out

and was debilitated for a few weeks. This lead me to believe she had signs of whiplash from the fall.

We discussed a plan of action which included self stretching, trigger point cane applications and

hot and cold pack therapy. Also a review of any lifestyle changes that would be exacerbating her issues.

As a busy business executive she had ergonomic issues with her workspace which included computer placement,

telephone handling, and posture at the workstation.

We decided on 10 sessions , weekly for the first 4 to 6 weeks then tapering

to every other week, then once a month or as needed.

Within 8 sessions Kathy had made so much improvement that she said ,

"I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. I am experiencing

little to no pain which lasts for weeks now."

Kathy is now on an exercise program to increase her tone and strengthen the muscles

weakened because of her injury.
